Wireless networks, including WLAN, WiMax, wireless personal networks, ad hoc, sensor, along with pervasive networks, have witnessed their fastest growth period over the last few years and have become increasingly complex. Nonetheless, performance evaluation and analysis of wireless networks have been conducted mostly through software simulations (e.g., using ns-2 or OPNET tools). Research efforts have recently been directed towards measuring real-world commercial and experimental networks; constructing models based on real-world data and using prototypes to evaluate solutions more realistically and comprehensively and to validate assumptions and conclusions that are reached via simulation experiments.
Performance monitoring, measurement, and evaluation of heterogeneous wired and wireless mobile networks pose a new set of unique challenges due to the particular inherent properties of these systems and due to the characteristics of the wireless transmission medium.
The aim of the 5th ACM PM2HW2N, which last year's edition was held in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, is to bring together scientists, engineers, and practitioners in order to share and exchange their experiences, discuss challenges, and report state-of-the-art and in-progress research on all aspects of performance measurements, monitoring, and evaluation of heterogeneous wired and wireless mobile networks, including, wireless ad hoc, sensor, and ubiquitous networks.

Ámbito y objetivos:
Las Jornadas de Paralelismo son un congreso de carácter científico-técnico y ámbito nacional que se celebra anualmente desde 1990. Las Jornadas surgieron a partir de las actividades llevadas a cabo en marzo de 1989 por la Dirección General de Telecomunicaciones de Madrid.
Ininterrumpidamente desde 1990, las Jornadas se han celebrado en Sitges (Barcelona), El Escorial (Madrid), Valencia, Santander, Málaga, Barcelona, Santiago de Compostela, Cáceres, San Sebastián, La Manga del Mar Menor (Murcia), Granada, Valencia, Lérida, Madrid, Almería, Granada, Albacete, Zaragoza, Castellón y A Coruña.
El objetivo básico de las Jornadas es reunir durante un período corto de tiempo al máximo número de investigadores con objeto de intercambiar experiencias, presentar y debatir resultados de su investigación, fomentar la coordinación entre grupos, y poner en común sus ideas sobre tendencias relacionadas con el paralelismo y la arquitectura y con las redes de computadores en general.
Durante la celebración de las Jornadas también se reserva un espacio para conocer las actividades de empresas dedicadas a la construcción de computadores paralelos, y las últimas innovaciones docentes en el área de arquitectura y tecnología de computadores.
